My bio

Fred founded Empowered & Fit in 2006 to offer a nurturing space and a source of healing for people suffering from physical or emotional pain or stress. As a certified massage therapist and Reiki master, he discovered that through the sensitive fusion of techniques, including various types of massage, Reiki, and Qi-gong, he could provide not only physical relief to his clients but also emotional and spiritual peace and calm as well. His success is derived from a deeply intuitive connection with clients, as well rigorous training in wide areas of holistic healing. His massage meets clients where they are and provides exactly what their bodies need.

Fred is a nationally certified massage therapist and a graduate of AKS Massage School in Herndon. He has additional training in Thai Yoga Massage, Lomi Lomi, Tui-Na, Tibetan Massage, Qi-Gong, and sports massage. He is a Reiki Master and a Reiki Master Teacher. Fred holds a Master’s degree in Education from Chapman University and a BA from University of Maryland. He is an active member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).

Understanding Wellness - The Keys to Illness and Health Lie Beneath the Surface

Dr. John Travis, who created the “Wellness Inventory,” identified 3 critical components to overall wellness. Today, I’d like to talk about the second of these components:

Illness and health is only the tip of an iceberg. To understand their causes, you must look below the surface.

You may find it interesting to know that 90 percent of an iceberg is submerged, below the water. Only about 10 percent of the iceberg is actually visible. When we consider that state of your wellness, icebergs… Continue

Do You Need a Coach?

People ask me all the time about life and wellness coaching. What is it? What does a coach do? What's a session like?

Working with a coach can help people break through obstacles that may be preventing them from leading the life they wish to lead. Coaches usually work with clients one-on-one, either in person or by telephone, to support their learning and growth within a safe and supportive relationship.

As a coach, I view my clients as being creative, capable and complete individuals, who are… Continue

I wrote this article for Owning Pink and it was first published there on September 30, 2009. Domestic violence is still a scourge in our country, with 3 women each day being killed by their partner. Please. If you are a victim, read this article and know: you are not alone. There are people ready, willing and able to help.

Hi Fred,

It's my pleasure to join your community! I'm looking forward to participating. I hear what you're saying about your outline and being a bit behind. Since we talked, I took on some additional writing assignments with Cleveland Clinic, so I'm pretty busy, myself. So I can understand you being a bit behind. Looking forward to seeing your outline whenever you're ready. Actually, I may email you with a few insights I gleaned from a therapist friend who works with a lot of survivors that may be helpful.

I am also going back to school beginning August 10 for my Associate Degree w/a focus more on the sports and injury side, and also Shiatsu. I am truly blessed to begin a new phase in my life and I thank God for the opportunity to be successful.
