My bio

Fred founded Empowered & Fit in 2006 to offer a nurturing space and a source of healing for people suffering from physical or emotional pain or stress. As a certified massage therapist and Reiki master, he discovered that through the sensitive fusion of techniques, including various types of massage, Reiki, and Qi-gong, he could provide not only physical relief to his clients but also emotional and spiritual peace and calm as well. His success is derived from a deeply intuitive connection with clients, as well rigorous training in wide areas of holistic healing. His massage meets clients where they are and provides exactly what their bodies need.

Fred is a nationally certified massage therapist and a graduate of AKS Massage School in Herndon. He has additional training in Thai Yoga Massage, Lomi Lomi, Tui-Na, Tibetan Massage, Qi-Gong, and sports massage. He is a Reiki Master and a Reiki Master Teacher. Fred holds a Master’s degree in Education from Chapman University and a BA from University of Maryland. He is an active member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).

Living in the Moment - Understanding Mindfulness

"Mindfulness" is the term that describes the notion of being conscious in the present moment, not allowing your mind to wander into the past or into the future. For many of my clients, it's difficult for them to be completely present during their bodywork session with me. They may be thinking about the meeting they had earlier in the day, about the list of chores or errands they have to do on the weekend, about the fight they had with their spouse or partner the night before.

We are also condit… Continue

Seven Ways to Manage Your Stress Hormones

When I meet with clients for the first time, one of the questions I ask is 'how much stress do you have in your life?' Often, a client will respond by saying she doesn't suffer from stress at all. And I usually respond by saying, 'Oh really?'

We usually don't realize how stress affects us, because our body does a good job of adapting to pressures put on it. And I think in our society (certainly here in the Washington DC metro area), we are often encouraged to wear stress like a badge of honor.… Continue

Meatless Monday - A Pair of Italian Inspired Vegetable Dishes

I love Italian cuisine. Most people probably think of pasta when they think of Italy and Italian cooking. In the Tuscany region of Italy, vegetables have always been important. They are the principle ingredients of molds, omelets, soups and sauces, as well as some meat and fish recipes. In Tuscany, the Tuscan bean is always a part of the menu. Today, I offer you a version of Tuscan beans, cooked with tomatoes, or all'uccelletto. This is the most popular vegetable dish in Sienna and it's e… Continue

Hi Fred,

It's my pleasure to join your community! I'm looking forward to participating. I hear what you're saying about your outline and being a bit behind. Since we talked, I took on some additional writing assignments with Cleveland Clinic, so I'm pretty busy, myself. So I can understand you being a bit behind. Looking forward to seeing your outline whenever you're ready. Actually, I may email you with a few insights I gleaned from a therapist friend who works with a lot of survivors that may be helpful.

Thank you. I am glad to be here. I am new to Ning, and I am newly Licensed. I took the mblex on July 1 and passed. I am just waiting for the physical license to arrive in the mail. I am also going back to school beginning August 10 for my Associate Degree w/a focus more on the sports and injury side, and also Shiatsu. I am truly blessed to begin a new phase in my life and I thank God for the opportunity to be successful.
